Pushkar Fair 2026 dates
The Pushkar Fair (Pushkar Mela or Pushkar Camel Fair) follows the Hindu lunar calendar and culminates on Kartik Purnima, Tuesday 24 November 2026. Based on the published calendar, the 2026 fair is expected to run from around 17 to 24 November 2026.
Livestock traders often begin arriving several days before the official opening, so the camel grounds can be at their most authentic early in the week. Always check the official schedule from the Department of Tourism, Government of Rajasthan before finalising travel. See our Pushkar Fair programme guide for a day-by-day overview.
What happens at the Pushkar Camel Fair?
The fair blends a huge livestock market with a religious festival and a cultural celebration:
- Camel, horse and cattle trading on the sandy fairgrounds
- Camel decoration, camel dance and camel races
- Fun competitions such as the longest moustache, turban tying and matka phod
- Folk music, dance performances and cultural evenings
- Deepdan and the maha aarti at Pushkar Lake
- The holy dip in Pushkar Lake on Kartik Purnima
- Hot air balloon rides over the fairground (subject to operators and weather)
Where to stay during the Pushkar Fair
Accommodation in and around Pushkar fills up quickly in November, and rates rise sharply. A desert camp is one of the most atmospheric ways to experience the fair: you spend your days at the mela and your evenings around the campfire.
Enquire early about a Swiss tent stay, night camping or mobile camping for groups during the fair. The team will confirm availability and current rates for your dates.
Tips for visiting the fair
Make the most of the mela with a little planning:
- Book accommodation and transport as early as you can
- Visit the camel grounds early in the morning for the best light and fewer crowds
- Carry a scarf and sunglasses for dust, and warm layers for the evenings
- Ask before photographing people, and keep valuables secure in crowds
- Respect religious customs around the lake and temples
