Holi 2027 dates

Holi follows the Hindu lunar calendar and falls on the full moon of Phalguna. In 2027, Holika Dahan (the bonfire night) is on Sunday 21 March 2027, and Dhulandi, the day of colours, is on Monday 22 March 2027.

How Holi is celebrated in Pushkar

On the evening before, bonfires are lit to mark the victory of good over evil. The next morning the streets fill with music, drums and people throwing gulal (coloured powder). Celebrations are usually most intense in the main market and the area around Varaha Ghat, and generally wind down by early afternoon.

Remember that Pushkar is a holy town: alcohol is not permitted, and you should avoid entering temples or the ghats covered in colour.

Holi safety tips

Enjoy the festival safely:

  • Wear old clothes you do not mind ruining; white shows the colours best
  • Oil your hair and skin beforehand so colours wash off more easily
  • Protect your eyes with sunglasses and keep your phone in a waterproof pouch
  • Use natural, skin-friendly colours
  • Stay with friends, especially in the busiest streets
  • Be careful with bhang (cannabis-infused drinks), which can be very strong

Stay at the camp over Holi

After a morning of colour, head out of town for a calm afternoon, a sunset camel safari and a night at the camp. March is a lovely time in the desert, with warm days and pleasant evenings.
